Honduran Troops Dump President

And they did it with a court order. Sure, they may have gone about it messily, but Honduras saw what happened in Venezuela, and moved to make sure it didn’t happen to them.

President Manuel Zelaya of Honduras was removed from power after his (obviously) unsuccessful attempt to subvert the Honduran constitution. He wanted a referendum on whether to change the constitution, specifically so he could run for more than one term. Apparently, the laws of Honduras don’t allow this, and their Supreme Court affirmed this. Zelaya was going to go ahead with the referendum anyway, and the military leaders that refused to go along with the illegal maneuver were sacked.

Everybody knew what was coming next. They knew in the U.S. Yet Zelaya was caught-literally with his pants down as troops stormed the presidential palace. He’s now in Costa Rica apparently, scheming with Venezuelan goon Hugo Chavez on how to regain power. You can probably guess what’s going to happen there. Chavez will create some kind of diplomatic crisis that will give him cause to take military action against the tiny Honduras.

This just happened, so we’ll see how it plays out. It’s far from over. I’m sure Barack Obama is interested in seeing how it goes. I’m sure he’s interested to see how far you can go flouting a constitution.
