Radio can be a rough business, but this is a stunner. The radio market the size of Los Angeles now has a conservative hole the size of the Grand Canyon.
How about this for a lineup: First Laura Ingraham, later replaced by Glenn Beck, then Monica Crowley, Lou Dobbs, Michael Savage, Lars Larsson-you would think that a station with such a formidable lineup would be sitting on top of the airwaves. Apparently not.
KGIL, formerly talk radion 1260 AM in Los Angeles suddenly changed its format, without warning, and without much of an explanation. The station, with a lineup that drew millions of listeners every day has changed format and will now play standards and doo-wop music. You heard it right, AM doo-wop oldies in place of a monster conservative lineup. The station spin cited a lack of this kind of format in this area, although there are higher sound quality FM stations playing the exact same thing.
That leaves Los Angeles without any of the above voices except for Laura Ingraham, who moved to another station. Whether this void will be filled in the near future is anybody’s guess, but for now, we have Mike Gallagher and Rush Limbaugh in the morning, and Shawn Hannity and Mark Levin in the afternoons. Sure, no slouches, but the conservative voices that were lost when KGIL went retro leaves a void that cannot be easily filled. Certainly not with doo-wop. How much is satellite radio anyway? Mark Lloyd must be just giddy.

What about KRLA?
Sure, they have Gallagher in the morning…wait, you’re right, Terry Anderson, Kevin James, local patriots-I hope you kick a few dollars over to Terry now and then.
i think satellite radio did not gain so much popularity these days.’~.
