Education: Facts Or Philosophies?

The upcoming Obama brown shirt speech to school children has rightly caused outrage from parents who do not want this man twisting the minds of their impressionable children. At the same time, indoctrination, liberal ideas and misinformation are already par for the course in schools. Obama’s talk will just be a continuation of the slide into failed philosophy indoctrination.

If anybody has been in school in the last several years know that liberal loons have taken over the asylum. I dodged some land mines myself after making the mistake of questioning the prevailing philosophy. Luckily, math is math, so those classes were pretty straight forward. There were other required ancillary classes though, that degree wise were unimportant, but still had to be completed.

One of those classes was a communications class that was in fact, a socialist group think class. That was the core philosophy of the class. We had to form groups and do a presentation, using the groupthink outlines from our text. Then we had to write our term paper chronicling how we conformed to the theories of the text. Yes, according to the text, groups behave in a predictable, sequenced manner, and if you wanted to pass the class, your group had better make sure the book was right. Well, being the naive person that I was, my paper had nothing to do with the groupthink philosophy. Our group did not conform to what the text stated as fact was typical group think. I shot down the first tenet of group think, according to this text: The first thing all groups do is select a leader. Not only did that not happen, but I argued that selecting a leader defeated the whole concept of groupthink. I was so smart.

So what do you think happened? What I thought was a well written paper received a D. Being firm, but respectful (after all, she was handing out the grades), I argued my case that not all groups behave in the manner described in the book. She disagreed. I must be wrong. Faced with the prospect of failing the class, I gave her what she wanted: a re-written paper that was as divorced from reality as possible. I managed to escape with a C-.

Then there was another required class, The History of Art, or something like that, with the main text being a book the professor wrote. What it turned out to be was art from a Marxist perspective. Very political. I had great fun in that class. She dinged me on the written assignments, but since I aced the multiple choice baloney, she had to pass me. Oh, she hated me though. At least I walked with my integrity intact, unlike in the communications class.

By then I was seasoned in dodging these kinds of lefties, so when I took the Ethical Issues In Business, which was basically a capitalism is bad class, I knew what to do. This class was the topper though. The term paper was to write about what the country would look like under some other economic system-like communism. Yes, I still remember his indoctrination speech starting “Just consider…” I knew what to do and gave him a stack of bull that rivaled
the communications class paper. I got an A.

Luckily, most of my classes focused on finance and math, but for those majoring in other things, such as social science type philosophies, I can only imagine what that was like. To add insult to all that injury, all that cost me thousands of dollars. So when Barack Obama addresses our kids next week, as distressing as that is, just keep in mind that the indoctrination process is already in full swing. The text books being used in school are another post entirely. The most disturbing thing about Obama’s speech is that he is aiming at the youngest and most impressionable. Highly recommended that your kid be sick that day. Any parent can tell you how difficult it is to explain to a child how to differentiate fact from opinion. And even with facts there can be issues. Anybody for home schooling?
