This is almost beyond comprehension. The worst terror attacks ever on American soil, the memory and grief burned into every American old enough to understand that day, left a void that will never be completely filled. Anybody who has suffered a loss in their personal lives know what I’m talking about. But America has the capacity to overcome, to rebuild. Some Americans won’t get that chance though.
While the new Freedom Tower was being designed to stand on the site of the World Trade Center in New York, three American companies worked with the architects in designing blast proof glass for the first 20 floors. American design, American ingenuity. The New York/New Jersey Port Authority had other ideas though. They’ve decided to outsource the making of the glass to China. That’s right, now we’ll have One World Trade Center, made in China. US Glass Magazine is reporting that a U.S. firm, DCM Solera, the lowest bidder, will use a sub-contractor to procure the glass from a Chinese manufacturer. This is glass that is supposed to be blast resistant-just in case. So what kind of quality do you think we can expect from China?
The project has become bastardized, with third world slave labor that will produce glass of dubious quality replacing Americans on this of all projects. And we won’t know how shitty the glass is until, God forbid, it one day has to perform to expectations. If there was any one project that should be 100% American, it’s this one. The PA didn’t feel that way. This is just as outrageous as the goons that designed the Flight 93 memorial in Pennsyvania. The memorial there is in the shape of the Islamic crescent, and it just happens to point straight at Mecca. Don’t believe it? The design is public knowledge. Check it out if you can take it.
It’s disturbing, but it’s a fact we all must acknowledge: not everyone cares about this country. Between the ones trying to destroy America, and the ones who just don’t give a damn, the rest of us have our work cut out for us. I can’t say that this is the kind of wake up call America needs, after all, there is plenty of outrage to choose from. New Yorkers, garden staters, your governors appoint the Port Authority commission. Are you going to stand for this? Are you going to let these clowns defile the memory of 9-11 by denying Americans the opportunity to contribute to the rebuilding of World Trade Center site? We all can express our outrage, but you can actually do something about it. Don’t let these idiots desecrate your home, your town with this action. Let them know. I’m sure they were hoping you would never find out.

This is sad, the only thing that is sadder than this is the fact that eight years later the attack this monument hasn’t already been built.
Sorry, eight years after the attack is what I meant to write.
The Flight93 memorial is an islamic crescent? WHAAAT?
They are god damn lucky I wasn’t president during 9/11. Sometimes I think Bush overreacted, that the war wasn’t a good idea, but if I’d been running things at the time I would have made him look like Gandhi.
Check that link rightriot, it’s an outrage.
I hear you Mr. Pinks Eyes. I see homes being built within a few months. No reason they couldn’t have had something built by now. Although personally I would have preferred some kind of monument or business park where people could congregate and come together as a community, not another office building. As I understand it, New York is saturated with office space already.
I’ve been reading about the Freedom Tower Glass being outsourced to China. I know the Factory in China – first i want to mention that their quality of glass is excellent – and their technology and quality of workmanship is world class quality.
Now that said, I think it is extremely sad that the Port Authority chose a Chinese Firm for the glass rather than an American Firm such as PPG. I feel like sometimes Americans would sell their soul to the devil if they can get a cheaper price. What about supporting American Workers? We’ve outsourced everything – nothing is left. Americans cannot be consumers if there is nobody left working.
In addition, the Chinese Company is boasting to its customers that its glass will be used in the Freedom Tower. I received the email yesterday. It makes me sick actually.
Unfortunately the Americans who believe in this Country and working for the greater good of the country are becoming less and less.
I believe in this country. I want to see it succeed. But we have to think of the collective good for all the citizens, and not just of ourselves. We have to educate our children, and stop spending more than we earn. The Federal Government has to reduce its own expenses – and as sad as it is to say – health care costs (even barring Medicare and Medicaid) are extraordinary. The problem is not the Government. But the Medical System needs an overhaul. I hate to say but the best solution can only be driven by the government. The private sector cannot institute such changes. People in the medical community know how these changes should be effected. Just research Mayo Clinic. But unfortunately, lawmakers are not willing to make the necessary changes. Both Democrats and Republicans have failed in the health care overhaul. If healthcare is done correctly, and without political influence / lobbying – this can greatly reduce expenses and put America back on track.
You said it Manny. As far as the quality of the glass…I don’t know the company, and my comments are based on the quality of Chinese products in general, but even if they had the best glass on earth, of all projects, this one should be “made in the U.S.A.”
