Back Door Public Option Plan

The reasons for trashing the whole hair-brained health care scheme are numerous enough already, but the Democrats still have ideas of hoodwinking America and inserting a public option.

Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) has come up with a plan to “allow” states to have their own public option plan. The Senate Finance Committee has approved the measure, that would have federal money meted out to the various states and then have the feds dictate how that money would be used. This comes just a few days after the public option was supposedly killed by the same committee.

The scheme is the same: You must have insurance. If you don’t get it at work, then you will get it here. This will be mandatory. The federal government will tell the states how this will be run. It’s a public option folks. Opt in, or go to jail.

We already know how well this will work. In California, work comp insurance is mandatory for businesses. If they cannot obtain, or cannot afford w/c insurance elsewhere, the state has set up the State Compensation Fund. California has faced budget deficits of $20 billon + the last two rounds. These social programs have bankrupted the state. And good luck if you are one of the companies that actually bill SCIF. Send the bill and say a little Hail Mary and you might get paid.

So what do you think will happen under this scenario? The same thing that would happen under the federal public option plan: companies will drop health care coverage for employees who would be forced by law to sign up for the public option plan, while at the same time driving legitimate insurance companies out of business. Proponents of the public option either do not understand, or do not care that insurance companies are for profit business entities, not discount coupon clearing houses. They employ thousands, if not millions of people once you consider the ancillary businesses that are built around them. So under the Democrat scheme, not only would you lose that insurance that you’re most likely happy with, unemployment would have to skyrocket. Insurance companies would go belly up left and right and we would have another man-caused disaster to deal with.

Several members of Congress have indicated that the health care plan is incomprehensible and impossible to understand. I would say to them, don’t vote for it if you can’t understand it. And if you really are that mentally challenged, then please contact me. I’ll explain it to you.
