Newt Gingrich Becoming Irrelevant

Does this guy have some kind of switch you can turn off? His crusade to turn Republicans into Democrats has no end.

Newt Gingrich is at it again, this time warning that the conservative wing of the Republican party will spell disaster for the party if they continue with the tea parties and backing 3rd party candidates. That’s right, Newt is bashing tea party protests. Just to remind you, others that have opposed tea party protests include Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, and Harry Reid. So did Olbermann and Maddow and Matthews. So did the Daily Kos and Huffington Post. And now we have Newt proclaiming that those with conservative values and a deep love for this country are the ones that will destroy the Republican party.

First of all, those tea party protest may have killed the government takeover of health care. It certainly battered the effort. Cap and trade may be even deader than the health care issue. If you believe Rasmussen, Barack Obama would lose to a half-way decent candidate if elections were held today. Citizens are more energized and involved in the democratic process, their duty as citizens of this country than they have been in years. People are awake. Not only that, not all tea party protesters are Republican. Many are independent and were never Republican. Gingrich lives in a two-party mindset.

As far as 3rd party candidates, it was Gingrich that said that conservatives were making a mistake in backing Doug Hoffman in New York’s 23rd district race. It turns out that his choice, Dede Scozzafava, was an ACORN loving Democrat in disguise, and now even he admits that she was a bad choice. But did he mean it? Just a few days ago, Gingrich visited some Baltimore schools with none other than Al Sharpton. That would seem to lend legitimacy to the lifetime race hustler. Or maybe it just erodes what credibility Gingrich has left.

If a person is going to sacrifice their values, what they believe in, what they care about, then what the hell is the difference if there is a “disaster” or not? I don’t give a rats ass about Republicans. I do care about this country though. And if the Republicans are moving in the same direction that Newt Gingrich is moving, then I hope they have a nice trip, because I’m not going. If I wanted to live my life and compromise what I believed in for the sake of political party positioning, then this blog wouldn’t even exist. I would just punch the clock and let guys like Newt Gingrich call the shots. We’ve seen how guys like Gingrich can botch a good thing (just look at what happened to the contract with America), and here is Gingrich shooting himself in the foot one more time. Thanks Newt, we’ll take it from here.
