Yet the CIA did nothing. Is this a case of staggering ineptitude, or inaction out of fear of reprisal from the current liberal government? There was a systemic failure all right Barry, but not because nobody knew what was going on. In fact, everybody knew what was going on, but nobody took action.
CBS news is reporting that the panty bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was on American intelligence radar as early as August. The CIA was tracking a person of interest known at the time as the Nigerian, which later turned out to be Abdulmutallab. In addition, panty bomber’s father went to U.S. officials and told them straight out that his son was a radical Muslim (brought to you by the religion of peace), and that he was concerned about what he might do. Apparently, that info was relayed to Washington, but it prompted no action.
Now here is a guy that the CIA had been checking out for months, the father then comes to them and confirms their suspicions about the guy, and nobody does anything. This guy was allowed to pass through security at two differnt airports with a bomb stuck in his ass and make it all the way to the skies over Detroit (a growing Muslim hot spot) before alert passengers did what the entire American intelligence apparatus could not. Meanwhile, grandma gets slammed against the wall for having an open tube of toothpaste in her purse.
Well, we can only speculate, but either Leon Panetta is as buffoonish as his Muslim king, or the the specter of congressional hearings and/or eventual criminal charges froze the intelligence community. Remember the waterboarding debacle? There was talk then of prosecuting intelligence operatives. Who wants to go to prison for possibly violating the civil rights of a jihadist?
Do you feel any safer since 9-11? I did for a while. As bumbling as Michael Chertoff and the Bush administration was, I still felt like there was some level of vigilance, and that was better than nothing. After all, Bush and the boys had guys locked down in Gitmo, were waterboarding thugs when they had to, and at least seemed to be trying to kick some ass. What about now? It looks like there is a much larger bureaucracy, civil rights are being squeezed, and we’re no better off than we were on 9-10.

What does it take for the agencies that are supposed to be protecting us to take action!? This is so maddening, everyone knew this mans was a threat and yet nobody did anything. The more that we find out about this story, the more there is to be concerned about. It appears as though we have learned nothing since September 11th.
How is it that a group of people can be so bumbling, so inept, yet are able to achieve career success? I haven’t figured that one out.

Mind boggling.
OT Happy New Year. It’s 2010 and that means it’s time to make some changes in the House.
