Lou Dobbs An Amnesty Sellout?

It just goes to show that you never really know a person. The man once heralded by some as a possible presidential candidate now appears to be just another groveling ethno appeaser.

Lou Dobbs, a man whose name was synonymous with homeland security and the integrity of America’s borders has seemingly become a different man since leaving CNN. I say seemingly, because Dobbs is maintaining that his position on illegal immigration hasn’t changed at all. Tell that to the legions that feel he’s sold out.

An appearance on The O’Reilly Factor the other day only served to solidify the sellout label that has been recently hung around Dobbs’ neck. O’Reilly asked Dobbs what should be done about the 12-20 million illegals in the country now, and Dobbs responded with the kind of answer that infuriated so many Americans when the McKennedy amnesty bill was being pushed just a few years ago. Taking a page straight out of that failed amnesty bill, Dobbs recommends that illegals already here pay a fine (even those on public assistance with somebody elses social security number Lou?), learn English (with those classes being bankrolled by who?), and pay back taxes…if any. Yes, if any are known about. He also started to mention a guest worker program, but O’Reilly cut him off. He wanted to know about the criminals that crossed and are here now. That’s right, Dobbs wants a guest worker program. 10% unemployment, 12-20 million illegals already here (and that’s the conservative estimate) and Dobbs is talking guest worker.

Not only is Dobbs talking path to citizenship, and even admitted that it would amount to rewarding criminal behavior, he also wants the family members of those that crossed illegally to be able to come over as well. If we take the 20 million number, and 3 or 4 family members attached to each, that’s 60-80 million more people in a country of 300 million. If that isn’t erasing the border, there is no such term. Mexico only has 100 million people. Do the math; the border would be erased. And while Dobbs touts the merits of McCain-Kennedy, remember, there were/are no provisions to enforce any of the mandates. Even if there were a way to verify who was who and whether they were paying the fines, learning English, etc…60 to 80 million. Dobbs attempted to drag Jim Webb, a Democrat into this mess, talking about an amendment he came up with during the amnesty push. Webb never proposed amnesty.

At the end, O’Reilly asks Dobbs why the hispanics hate him so much if he’s so moderate. I can tell you why. Dobbs has done a 180. His explanation is that he was stupid for focusing on border security as opposed to reform. The real reason is that Dobbs has literally become a different person. From his supporters to his detractors, everyone agrees (except Dobbs) he has changed. He didn’t receive numerous threats from ethno-interests because he promoted this kind of amnesty over the years. It could be a political ploy to make himself seem less polarizing, and if that’s the case, his gamble isn’t paying off. The ethno hoods that want amnesty will never support him, and the supporters he did have (which were quite a few) are now disenfranchised.

You never really know someone. If only we really knew what Lou was up to. Looks bad Lou. You’ll have to re-establish yourself in my book.
