Unfortunately, that is the enemy they’re facing. That’s bad news for the military, and bad news for the rest of us.
The Pentagon’s less than eagerly anticipated report regarding the Islamic terror attack at Ft. Hood comes to some obvious conclusions, and leaves out even more obvious recommendations. The obvious had been confirmed even before this report was released: Maj. Nisal Hasan was a Muslim terrorist whack job, and should have not only been in the military, but been under investigation for collaborating with Islamic terrorists. Concerns over the behavior of this nut had been conveyed for years, and not only did the military ignore those concerns, but continued to promote this guy through the ranks. The Pentagon recommendations are much more watered down. They’re focused more on the breakdown in information sharing, and not the source of the problem. Sound familiar? Yes, that definitely needs to be addressed, but this problem requires a multi-pronged approach. The Pentagon is admitting that they don’t have any prongs at all.
The report underscores the fact that the military understands that they have a problem filtering out these kinds of terrorists in their ranks, but it also fails to address obvious steps that need to be taken. Those steps include rooting out Muslims in the ranks. Political correctness will virtually guarantee the this kind of thing will happen again. To be engaged in a war with Muslim extremists and pretend that you can weed them out from Muslims that are not inclined to engage in jihad is playing into the hands of the enemy. Terrorists such as Hasan bank on the fact that this government is attempting the impossible in cherry picking the doers from the thinkers. They’re playing dodge ball with national security; sooner or later we’re going to get hit, as the troops at Ft. Hood can tell you.
Here’s the fact: the Koran is a 10th century religious military manifesto, penned by a warrior of the day. It’s outdated and has no place in the 21st century. A historical document maybe, but a guide to live your life by? Insane. If somebody wants to follow the Muslim “faith,” then the military, sensitive positions in government-and the private sector for that matter should be off limits. If Homeland Security can find the time to keep tabs on ordinary rank and file Americans, then certainly, they could muster the resources to keep an eye on the source of the war on terror. It’s a politically correct double standard that puts us all in danger.

Political correctness has already cost our military a lot of lives. I can not understand why they would even consider continuing the practice.
I like what you said with the dodge ball analogy. Sooner or later, the practice of political correctness will turn around and bite them even harder than it did in Fort Hood.
I want to make clear this is not an indictment of our fighting men and women. This is about the bureaucracy.
So, am I reading this correctly … you are asserting that every single Muslim in the US military should be dismissed?
If I misread you, then I apologize. I am proceeding on the assumption that I have read that correctly.
Are you prepared officially to declare that Muslims are second-class citizens, then?
Having Muslims serve is not political correctness, it is freedom of religion. There are thousands of Muslims in the US military … one of them has committed a terrorist act, and his co-workers in the psych hospital were concerned about his tendency toward psychopathy. To brand the rest of them — including combat veterans (of Iraq and Afghanistan, no less!) and the desperately-needed translators — is beyond absurd.
This question isn’t just hypothetical or intellectual, by the way. I know a young man whose parents were Iranian-born who serves in the Marine Corps. He’s been to Iraq twice, counting his current tour. He’s a practicing Muslim.
Are you prepared to tell him that his service is suspect? I suspect that he, by the way, would disagree that your post is not an indictment against our fighting men and women.
KenL: yes.
