California Set To Go Broke By April

Unless of course they find a way to cut $9 billion worth of expenses. I can tell them where to start, but that would be out of the question.

After papering over the deficit in the last fiscal year, this year is rearing its ugly head earlier than anticipated. Notice I said fiscal year. Don’t get the idea that an entire year has passed since the last budget deficit. It hasn’t. Budget schemes and higher taxes haven’t helped. Of course not; they haven’t addressed any of the issues that caused a budget deficit in the first place. This is on top of a scheme where Californians were taxed…but it wasn’t a tax. It was a temporary loan (straight out of the paycheck) that the state is going to pay back later. Well, it’s later. Maybe we get it back, maybe we get an IOU. Who knows, but what is known is that loan was no interest and non-negotiable. It appears that California will run out of cash and will once again begin issuing IOU’s, like they did last year.

Illegal aliens suck funds out of the state to the tune of $10 billion+ every year. They won’t be touched though. That isn’t just for jails. That includes an array of social welfare programs where citizenship isn’t questioned. California doesn’t feel that the fraud level warrants investigating. And the budget gap inches up a little higher. Then there’s the unions, who won’t budge on benefits for their members. That’s fine, but in a sane world, they would realize that we are all being hit, and they shouldn’t be immune either. But years of payoffs and cronyism with those in Sacramento will make sure that never happens. Yes, contract agreements that the state can’t break are sited for the inaction on union pensions and benefits doled out by the state, but at the same time you have to ask who made those deals. Union bosses should also realize that a renogotiated contract is much better than unemployment. So far, no logic of this type has been exhibited on either side. The unions are technically correct, but they must be seeing a different state than the rest of us, because this one is collapsing and cannot afford those benefits. Yes, you can blame it on Sacramento for getting that ball rolling. Ultimately though, you can blame the people of California for voting in these clowns again and again.

There’s nothing Arnold Schwarzenegger can do at this point. He may have been able to in the past, but now he’s at the point of no return. Somebody should have told him that it was not possible to be rational with the California legislature. Special interest reconquistas and glassy eyed socialist abound, and if you manage to avoid them, you just run into the scumbag who will vote for any bill that has a few bucks coming to the one who casts it.

This problem isn’t going away. In fact, it will get worse. California used the stimulus money they received to prop up existing payouts. That money is now gone and will not be in next years fiscal budget. This is the beginning of another budget disaster, and with the worst credit rating of any state, and no more stimulus freebies coming, it’s shaping up to be painful year of cut services and higher taxes for California. More salt in the wounds that were opened up last year.
