Los Angeles Being Belted With A “Carbon Surcharge”

We can blame the corrupt politicians in Los Angeles for the city’s woes all we want, but the fact is, if the citizens hadn’t voted for them in the first place, we wouldn’t be in this current downward spiral.

Mayor Antonio Mecha Villaraigosa, the corrupt, racist, lech, ex(?) gang member that is now in his second term as Mayor of Los Angeles, is doing his part to perpetuate the global warming myth, and at the same time help drive another dagger into the back of the city. The latest scam is a proposal to add a $2.50 monthly surcharge to Department of Water and Power energy bills in an effort to move towards renewable sources of energy. Nothing wrong with exploring those avenues, but this thing stinks from the top down.

The DWP, already awash in over $100 million in excess funds, are having those funds transferred to the general fund. The city is broke, and it will take money wherever it can get it. This leaves the DWP deficient in funds to accomplish the mayor’s green initiative. They have decided (not surprisingly) to turn to the taxpayer to pick up the slack. Never mind the sweetheart union deal that Villaraigosa worked out with the DWP, courtesy the city taxpayer, now he wants to hit us all again with a surcharge to take the place of the money that was raided by the city government. And he may just get it. Remember, this is the same block of voters that handed itself a 10% phone tax thinking it was a tax decrease. You can’t make this up. This is the same block that voted in Villaraigosa twice, even as his approval numbers were in the tank. This same block is willing to shoot itself in the foot again, despite living in a city with one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation.

How easy is it to turn these voters upside down? Very easy. Villaraigosa’s goons did some polling to gauge voter reaction to being hoodwinked out of more of their dollars once again. The results had to make them smile.

…In the same line of questions, only 52% favored a surcharge or fee to cover the cost of converting the DWP from coal to renewable sources.

In another part of the survey, however, 64% of respondents said they were willing to pay a $2.50 surcharge to move the DWP off of coal, pollsters said.

Yes, the voters were against it before they were for it. All they have to do is make the language so confusing that the voters won’t even understand what they’re being hit with. It shouldn’t be that difficult. After all, they successfully did just that with the phone tax. Not only that, the $2.50 number was just an estimate. It could be much higher.

If the voters of Los Angeles want to have their pockets picked once again so Villaraigosa can bankroll his buddies with some undoable green scam, then there may be nothing any of us can do about it. Unfortunately, they will take the rest of us down with the ship.

  • They say you get the government you deserve, and that certainly seems to be the case in LA. People just keep taking more and more, but they keep voting the same people into office. Sooner or later the people have to wake up and say enough is enough, don’t they?

  • They lambasted Tom Tancredo for suggesting a civics literacy test before voting. basically proving you have some kind of intelligence. Whether that is a good idea or not is another discussion, but you could certainly make a case for it in L.A.
