This couldn’t have worked out better for Barack Obama if he had planned this himself. Then again, he may have done just that.
With the Southern border of the United States wide open , the drug cartels in Mexico are engaged in a bloody war for control of the drug routes into the country. In fact, the borders are so wide open, that the most effective barrier to the flood of illegal aliens from Mexico is the gauntlet of cartel violence they have to traverse to get here. A new tactic by the cartels may now make that trip worth the risk.
El Porvenir, Mexico, a town of 10,000 just across the border is being cleaned out by one of the cartels. They have given residents one month to pack up and get out. It’s not clear why they want the entire town to themselves, but what is clear is that they do want it. This has caused a stream of Mexican citizens to flock to Texas and either legally or illegally escape into the United States. It has also caused a new phenomenon that could have far reaching implications. There are those that are now claiming political asylum. That’s right. Fearing violence, or in this case certain death from the cartels have driven some to claim political aslyum in the United States. Yes, the original intent of political asylum was to offer citizens of other countries protection from their own governments, but that has now morphed into a threat of any kind, in this case, coming from the cartels. There is now talk of tent cities being set up in case of a major run to the border by the residents of El Porvenir. This couldn’t have worked out better for Barack Obama. With his popularity in free-fall, and fresh over an enraging health care mess rammed down the throat of America, his amnesty agenda faces maybe even more fierce opposition than his socialized health care bill did. Handing political asylum to anybody that claims the threat of violence in Mexico would be defacto amnesty, because the fact is, that once they’re here, they will not be going back. Potentially, millions of Mexican citizens could make the claim that cartel violence was imminent and needed political asylum. The problem is that this was never the intention of political asylum. Mexico is a narco-state, and many countries in the hemisphere have citizens that could make the same claim as those in El Porvenir. Where does it stop? where do you draw the line?
This is a direct result of not enforcing border security. Those cartels are fighting over drug routes. If there were no drug routes this would not be occurring. Instead, the Obama regime is facilitating not only this drug war, but the resulting displacement-into the United States of Mexican citizens. Let’s be fair. George Bush was no border sentry either. Obama is just continuing the march to erase the border and turn Mexico, Canada and the United states into one country. Bush actually got that ball rolling. Makes you wonder who is actually in charge… But Obama could stop it today. Build the double fencing, put the military on the border, and effectively cut off the source of contention between drug cartels. They would have to peddle their wares somewhere else. And they would, it just wouldn’t be a hop, skip and a jump across the border.
It remains to be seen how the whole political asylum situation plays out. We already know that the borders will remain wide open, and internal enforcement will be virtually non-existent. Ramming through amnesty after potentially hundreds of thousands of asylum seekers are safely in the United States would be an Obama dream. Of course that was a Bush dream as well. Again, it makes you wonder who’s really in charge.
