The Republicans were removed from power in 2006 because they were incompetent and couldn’t get the job done. They were at least partially reinstalled because the Democrats were even worse. That doesn’t change the fact that the Republicans were, and still are skating on thin ice. This is not the time to sit back and see what they can do. Remember, they work for us, and so far, they look like the bumbling fools that turned voters away in the past. That’s where we the people come in.
Joe Miller of Alaska, Christine O’Donnell of Delaware, Chuck DeVore of California, Sharron Angle of Nevada and Doug Hoffman of New York were all hung out to dry by the Republicans. They were left to fend for themselves in tough, and even questionably fair races. Those were just the recognizable names. Oh yes, there were more. Fortunately, the people prevailed impressively, and a large crop of new faces headed to Washington in November. Unfortunately, they have to deal with the old faces that are still there.
The Republicans have pegged Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fl) as the new chairwoman of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee. Any legislation regarding affairs with foreign countries will have to pass through that committee. With a Republican at the helm, it sounds like bad news for Barack Obama in the house. Well, yes and no.
Lehtinen doesn’t care for the United Nations very much, and she makes no bones about it. In fact, she is already talking about cutting funding to that socialist, racist, jihad loving cesspool. Considering the United States props it up to the tune of 22 percent of its funding, that kind of talk could be damaging indeed. The U.N. human rights commission is an especially sore spot for her. While Obama embraces it wholeheartedly, she describes it as and aslylum run by the inmates. Those inmates include China, Cuba, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Iran would like a spot on the commission as well. She’s also looking to take the ax to State Department funding and foreign aid. Apparently, if the State Department wants to bankroll jihadi cesspools around the world-such as they are doing now, they’ll have to go through Lehtinen to get the money.
She’s also an ardent supporter of Israel, and that will help ensure that Obama’s plan to starve that country out and leave them at the mercy of their Muslim neighbors will have to wait. Keep in mind he’s already denied requests for weaponry that Israel has requested, while selling advanced fighter jets to Saudi Arabia at the same time. Sounds pretty good huh?
There’s another side of Ros-Lehtinen though. Her ethnic side overwhelms her common sense. Her family escaped from Cuba as Fidel Castro was coming to power. She identifies with the broad term Hispanic. Not unlike other Hispanic politicians, she is an open borders advocate. She voted no to a border wall along the Mexican border. No reporting illegal aliens seeking taxpayer funded medical treatment. Yes for immigrant visas. Yes on comprehensive immigration reform. Yes to covering illegals under Medicare. Yes…open borders.
As I said, not unusual for a Hispanic politician, but this one heads the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee. Any DREAM Act like legislation, any State Department funding requested to assist Mexico’s war on the cartels will go through her. It is she that can make something like the DREAM Act a reality, even in a Republican controlled house. She will have help too. Keep in mind, she is the one Republicans want in that position. There are many more Republicans that erroneously think that pandering to an ethnic group such as Latinos will magically bring them over to the Republican party. Newt Gingrich will tell you. You know some of the other names. These kind of people, instead of making a strong case as to why voting for Republicans would be in their best interest instead choose to act like Democrats, with promises of goodies (like amnesty), and trick Latinos into voting for them.
Ileana Ros-Lehtinen has some good ideas-very good ideas, especially regarding the United Nations. At the same time, she has some bad-very bad ideas about immigration. Though her district is relatively safe, we have to let John Boehner and the rest of the Republicans know that even more heads will roll in two years if they forget who they’re working for.
As I said earlier, we can’t sit back. These people are not reformed. If we aren’t constantly watching them, it will be back to business as usual-and you saw how that turned out.

It looks like we got a mixed bag with this one, we are going to have to watch her closely.
I am waiting to hear how many Dems Boehner is allowing on each Committee. Pelosi changed the percentages. If it is the same as Pelosi, the Dems should be neutered. But I don’t know…a bit of dread with Boehner on this one. I can’t seem to find any info on this.
Sitting back and waiting to see what will happen is definitely not an option. The Republicans, whether they all like it or not, must be continually prompted to do everything possible to keep the liberals off balance and on the defensive.
The Republicans need to get a steady stream of instructions from us. I know they listen-I get responses. We just have to do our part and make sure they don’t fall back into the business as usual mode. I think we can do it, but we have to be persistent. I think John Boehner is going to hear alot from me in the next few years.
Wow, she seems so great on many issues, and positively disastrous on another. However, we can’t afford to lose the border issue, so my opinion has to be “no.”
I agree Matt. There must be other Republicans that have the same contempt for the U.N. that she does.
It would be highly unusual to find a politician we can agree with 100%, so I try to overlook some things that are not so important. I am not so sure that is the case here. The issue of border security is so important, we can not afford to loose on it.
Happy New Year rjjrdq! Thanks for plugging away and making noise like the rest of us. Let’s hope that all that noise will make this year a better one.
You’re right LD. Here’s a perfect example of how we need to stay alert as to what the Repubs are doing.
Happy New Year mcnorman.
