If anybody still thinks the North American Union is just some right wing conspiracy theory, then they just haven’t paid attention to what is happening on our Southern border. The drug cartels and their coyotes already provide enough adventure for the would-be illegal alien wishing to cross over from Mexico. The last thing they need is the Border Patrol in the mix. Well, help may be on the way.
The Border Patrol is already facing heavy restrictions as to what they can and cannot do with illegal aliens that have crossed into the United States. They are under orders to either shoo them back across the border, a tactic know as TBS, or turn back South, catch and release, or in the case of those not known to have committed a felony, just let them go. Even in the face of these almost impossible restrictions. brave men and women still patrol the Southern border, doing what they can to preserve the integrity of the United States. That may be coming to an end if the Department of Homeland Security has anything to say about it.
A report issued by a group calling themselves the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF) concluded that the BP is much too aggressive in dealing with rock throwing thugs from across the border. The current policy is for border agents to respond with deadly force if they feel their life is in danger. If you’ve ever been hit with a rock you understand. Hard to imagine going to work every night and having rocks zinging by your head as part of the job. But according to PERF, the agents are bringing on themselves. Border Patrol Chief Michael Fisher basically called the report a crock and would not abide by the recommendations.
The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday that it obtained a copy of the report, which it described as critical of the Border Patrol’s “lack of diligence” in investigating agents who fired their guns. The newspaper said the report also concluded that “that some border agents stood in front of moving vehicles as a pretext to open fire and that agents could have moved away from rock throwers instead of shooting at them.”
The report found agents sometimes put themselves in harm’s way by remaining close to rock throwers when they could have moved away, according to a person who read it and spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because it has not been publicly released. It said agents may have been partly motivated by frustration in some rock-throwing cases.
According to PERF, border agents are intentionally putting themselves in harms way in order to have an excuse to shoot someone. Many of those agents are out there with nothing more than beanbag guns. If Brian Terry were here he would confirm that the last thing a border agent wants to do is to allow themselves to be pelted with rocks so they could have an excuse to kill someone. But that is the broad brush the report painted. To put it in perspective, in 2011 border agents were attacked with rocks 339 times. They responded with gunfire-33 times. According to PERF, that’s way out of line, and the DHS is reviewing the recommendations.
You saw what the report recommended. That the border agents just move away from potential trouble. But these are Border Patrol agents, whose job is to look for trouble and address it before it makes its way into the United States. That’s their job, and PERF is recommending that they cut and run. Who does PERF think they are anyway? I checked out their site. They are some kind of non-profit organization, and as far as I can tell, not an actual law enforcement entity.
Good enough for John Jeh at DHS. If the Border Patrol is denied even the opportunity to defend themselves, then why are they there at all? That may be the point. If the United States and Mexico are to become one, then what sense would it make to have a border patrol in place at what is now the Souther border? If you ask PERF, it makes no sense at all.
